KATHMANDU: MARCH. 28 – The 12-year-old Nyatabhulu Ajima (Nardevi Shweta Kalima) dance, which was performed since the Licchavi period, has begun.

Nardevi, the dance of Nardevi, which has various forms and appearances as a festival of Nyatabhulu Ajima, is performed in Patan’s Kartik Nach Dabli, Kathmandu’s Ten Avatar Dabli, and Kirtipur’s Laiku Dabli in the ancient settlement of Kathmandu.

Nardevi, known as Nyatabhulu Ajima in Newari, has been organizing dances in the center from Thambahi in the north to Onde in the south to protect everyone and triumph over untruth.

According to legend, when Nardevi, the king of Banepa, came to hunt, he was attacked by elephants in Kilagal and it is believed that the goddess appeared to save him.

Devi Nach is performed in the roles of gods, demons and incarnations like Kumari, Bhairav, Varahi, Ganesh, Mahalaxmi, Narayani, Indrayani, Rudrayani, Brahmayani, Singhrani, Byadhrini, Karunamay, Mahadya, Chandeshwari, Kumar, Daitya, Dhwan and Khicha. There is also a tradition of sacrificing two bullocks and five lambs at the place where dances are performed for the enjoyment of the deities.

Since Shweta Kali, Kumari, Bhairav, and Varahi did not have goddesses, the festival was continued after 2036 BS by offering forgiveness in 2066 BS, according to the Nardevi Shweta Kali Conservation and Management Committee. According to the committee, Devi Nach, which began in 2066 BS, was performed in the Ten Avatar Dabli at Taleju Bhawani Temple in Kathmandu until 2068 BS.

According to legend, when the goddess appears, the temple doors open by themselves. Similarly, the temple’s treasury opens on its own. And the Nardevi dance is performed by removing the goddesses’ ornaments and placing them on the dancing artist.

According to the Nardevi Shweta Kali Conservation and Management Committee, in 2036 BS, the then royal palace provided Rs. 200,000 for the dance and the king and the royal family also watched the dance. The guthiyaar and the community have been responsible for the entire dance arrangement since then.
