KATHMANDU: MARCH. 23 – Kathmandu is ranked as the world’s 11th most polluted city. Kathmandu’s air quality was ranked 11th in the world as of 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to a live update from IQ Air, a European body that measures the air quality, Lahore, Pakistan, ranks first among the world’s most polluted cities. The second is New Delhi, India’s capital. It is considered unhealthy to exceed the 151 indexes.

In the Valley’s Air Quality Management Action Plan, the Nepal government has included a provision for an air pollution emergency.

The action plan passed by the cabinet meeting on 2076 BS Magh 3 (17 January 2020) clearly states that disaster will be declared after exceeding 300 AQI. At present, the AQI of Kathmandu is around 153.
