SUNSARI: JAN. 19 – The current Barju Festival at Chimdi in Sunsari’s Barju Rural Municipality-6 has been severely damaged by arson and vandalism. On the last day of the Mahotsav (Festival), Tuesday, Bhojpuri actor Khesari Lal Yadav was not present, so the crowds set fire to the program and vandalized it.

The festival was reportedly postponed owing to an increase in COVID-19 infection, although the organizers did not do so. To control the situation, a 175-person police force has been sent under the command of three persons. According to the police, the festival drew between 9,000 and 10,000 people.

The fire started about 3.30 p.m., according to the police. According to police, the fire destroyed four unmarked Scorpios, a City Safari, a motorcycle, and a bicycle, as well as 1,000 plastic chairs, two-stage sound systems, and two generators.

Likewise, a police car was damaged. Khemraj Bista and Mina Majhi have been identified as the injured. According to police, 15 rounds were fired from the gas gun to disperse the throng.
