Comet ‘Leonard’ coming towards the earth can be seen with the naked eye
KATHMANDU: DEC. 5 – In the last few days, a comet named Leonard has been seen in the sky of Nepal. The comet can be seen in the northeast of Nepal shortly before sunrise in the morning, said senior astronomer Jayant Acharya.
The comet will be closest to Earth next Thursday, so it can be observed with the naked eye, says Acharya.
He said that even its tail can be seen through binoculars and telescopes and it is moving close to the sun at the rate of 254,000 kilometers per hour.
Leonard’s comet is so close to the sun today that it cannot be seen from Earth.
“This comet, which is moving close to the path of Jupiter, can be seen in the eastern sky from Nepal in the morning till December 11,” he said. It will rotate on its axis once every 12 years, he said. This comet is the latest comet discovered only last year.
