Arun III project worker died

KIMATHANKA, SANKHUWASABHA: DEC. 2 – A construction worker for the 900 MW Arun III Hydropower Project in Sankhuwasabha has died.

Mugerilal Singh, 45, of Madhya Pradesh, India, was killed while working at audit 3 of Chichila Rural Municipality -3, Solakhani.

Singh, an Indian laborer, was hurt last night when he was struck by a rock while working inside the tunnel. He died while receiving treatment at the district hospital.

Chief District Officer Nur Hari Khatiwada said that the police went to the spot to find out the truth about the incident. Workers inside the tunnel are at risk. Workers have complained that the project has not provided safety equipment.

Lack of hospital at the project site

There is no hospital on the Arun III Hydropower Project site. Approximately 3,000 Nepali and Indian employees are currently working on the project.

If injured or sick while working, the worker has to be taken to a distant hospital. They demand regular health check-ups.
