Police claim to kill 2 militants in Indian-controlled Kashmir gunfight
SRINAGAR, INDIAN-CONTROLLED KASHMIR: DEC. 1 – Police in Indian-controlled Kashmir Wednesday claimed it killed two militants in a gunfight in the restive region.
The gunfights broke out in the Qasbayar area of Pulwama district, about 35 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, according to police.
A police spokesman said in a statement posted on social media that two militants, a local and a foreigner, were killed in Pulwama.
“Two militants were killed today in a gunfight at Qasbayar area of Pulwama,” a police official said. “Of the two militants, one was an improvised explosive device (IED) expert.”
According to police officials, the government forces have not suffered any damage in the stand-off.
A guerilla war is going on between militants and Indian troopers stationed in the region since 1989.
