Malaysia’s inflation remains at 1.8 pct in March

Overall, March monthly inflation recorded a marginal increase of 0.1 percent as compared to 0.5 percent recorded in February.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s inflation, as measured by consumer prices index (CPI), remained unchanged at 1.8 percent in March, official data showed Thursday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the increase of inflation in March was driven by housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (3 percent); restaurant and accommodation services (3 percent); personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services (2.6 percent) and transport (1.3 percent).

The food and beverages group which contributes 29.8 percent of the total CPI weight, also recorded a slower increase of 1.7 percent in March as compared to 1.9 percent in February.

Overall, March monthly inflation recorded a marginal increase of 0.1 percent as compared to 0.5 percent recorded in February.

Meanwhile, core inflation increased slower at 1.7 percent as compared to 1.8 percent in February.
