Will Chand stay in Baitadi to strengthen the Congress or Nepali cricket?
KATHMANDU: NOV. 25 – With the long-standing ban being lifted, many had hoped that Nepali cricket would now move forward. There were many who were enthusiastic that CAN, the apex body of Nepali cricket, would no longer be useless and that it would set a rhythm.
There will be a schedule of at least regular competitions, players will not have to complain, Nepal will be able to play more national and international competitions, there will be other selection competitions from talent hunt of age group, construction of academy will be given priority.
However, after a long period of sanctions, the CAN driven by the new leadership remained so useless that there was more activity during the CAN ban. Chatur Bahadur Chand, who was elected president of the Nepal Cricket Association CAN with great faith and trust, has been gradually breaking that trust.
Within two years, CAN officials have been dispersed. Only those who have risen from the same panel and won elections to important positions have resigned. Even those who do seem to be lying in front of chairperson Chand.
None of the programs could be effective as there was no consensus among the CAN officials. Within two years, CAN officials have been dispersed. Only those who have risen from the same panel and won elections to important positions have resigned. Even those who do seem to be lying in front of chairperson Chand.
He himself has confirmed that chairperson Chand’s priority is not cricket and CAN but politics and he is an affiliated party. CAN chairperson Chand is the same person who was elected as the Baitadi district chairperson of the Nepali Congress on Wednesday.
Dav Whatmore, Chand’s head coach, broke his contract and returned. According to those close to CAN, one of the reasons for the return of one of the most successful coaches in world cricket is the bad politics within CAN and the lack of hope that CAN officials will do anything for the development of Nepali cricket.
There is not much enthusiasm in the players now. The players protested after specifying the preferred category of the players. Instead of trying to recover, they wallow in their sadness and thus, experience more failure. The situation is the same when you have to return after participating in international competitions with a short preparation. Achievements were accounted for even during sanctions. Now, neither the players, nor the officials, nor the supporters, nor the organizers of the tournament have the impression that anyone is watching.
Chairperson Chand, who has been accused of degrading Nepali cricket, has been formally attached to the responsibility of uplifting the Nepali Congress since Wednesday. Looking at his passion for politics, he now seems to be embracing the responsibility of making his team better than other teams in the district rather than the responsibility of strengthening the Nepali cricket team.
One of the main reasons for this is the inactivity of chairperson Chand. He is active in party politics. Even though he is the chairperson now, he is not new to party politics. He has been active in Congress politics for a long time. This time he became the district chairperson.
However, forgetting his responsibility to give direction to the cricket of the whole country, he is sure to affect Nepali cricket if he goes to the executive post of a particular team.

He will have to work hard to win his party in the upcoming general convention. After that, he will be in the role of deciding who will get the ticket in the district in the municipal elections. Then it will be his responsibility to win them over. He will then have this responsibility during the state and federal parliamentary elections. As the party’s district president, he himself will naturally be the claimant of the parliamentary candidate.
The role of Chand, who has been accused of being inactive in the development of Nepali cricket, is sure to be weakened. Looking at his passion for politics, it is not difficult to understand that he wants to focus less on the development of cricket and more on the development of the party. And, if the original leadership forgets that sense of responsibility and takes on another responsibility, then naturally that institution or body will collapse.
Now the question naturally and seriously arises: Will Chand stay in Baitadi to strengthen the Congress organization or will Nepali cricket stay in Kathmandu? How can he bring two completely different areas together? How can the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) run by the district president of a particular party be politically impartial amidst the belief that there should be no politics in the game?

Chand can go to any post of any party. But he cannot push Nepali cricket to decline under any pretext. Because he has been brought under the leadership of CAN to improve Nepali cricket and to uplift the image of being exhausted by the suspension.
The time has come for the question raised by the well-wishers of Nepali cricket to be more vocal. Now that there is ample evidence that CAN’s weak leadership is an obstacle to cricket development, it is up to chairperson Chand to decide whether he wants cricket or the Congress. He is free to choose. But both insisted on choosing; That will neither uplift Nepali cricket nor raise the status of the Baitadi Congress.
