Nepal eliminated with the second defeat in a row
KATHMANDU: OCT. 29 – The Nepali national U-23 team has been eliminated from the selection phase after suffering its second consecutive defeat. Nepal lost to Tajikistan 6-0 in the group stage of the Asian Cup qualifiers on Thursday.
Nepal lost 3-0 to Iran in the first match and scored half a dozen more goals in the second match. Asian U-23 failed to score in the selection. Nepal did not look strong in any area.
Tajikistan, with its weak defence and consistent ball possession, attacked Nepal’s post one after another. In the other match of the group on Thursday, Iran defeated Lebanon 2-0 to strengthen its chances of selection.
In the 24th minute of the first half, Tajikistan took the lead through a goal by Shervoni. After that, Mabatshoev, Sharafdzhon Solehov, Rustam Soirov, Muhammadali Azizboev, Vahdat Hanonov and Emomali Akhmadkhon scored one goal after another.
Lebanon also lost two games in a row. In the previous match, they had lost 1-0 to Tajikistan. While Iran and Tajikistan have the same score of 6-6 in the points table, Nepal and Lebanon are scoreless. Now Nepal and Lebanon will face each other in the final match.
Now Iran and Tajikistan will compete for the group title. When the top team in the group is directly selected in the final round, the top four teams that finish second will also advance. Nepal has yet to qualify for the AFC U-23 Asian Cup.
