Fare of public transport has gone up to a minimum of Rs 18 in the Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU: OCT. 7 – The fare of public transport in the Kathmandu Valley has increased. The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development of Bagmati State has increased the fare of public transport in Bagmati State including Kathmandu Valley on Wednesday.

There are 13 districts in Bagmati. The Bagmati state government has increased fares outside the Kathmandu Valley by 23 percent, while in the Kathmandu Valley, the fares have been increased on a kilometer basis.

The fare for public transport in the Kathmandu Valley has been fixed from 18 to zero for five kilometers, 23 for 10 kilometers, 27 for 15 kilometers, 30 for 20 kilometers and 35 for more than 20 kilometers.

As per the decision of the Ministerial level of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport on July 11, 2021, the Department of Transport Management had made a legal arrangement on July 13, 2021 to adjust the fare of other State routes and the fare should be adjusted by the state government.

Saroj Sitaula, general secretary of the National Federation of Nepali Transport Entrepreneurs, said that it was unfortunate that the fare for public transport was not increased. He said that scientific fare should be maintained in taxis as well.
