Purnima Shrestha – The 1st Nepalese women to reach the peak of Mt. Dhaulagiri

KATHMANDU: OCT. 1 – Photojournalist Purnima Shrestha has successfully climbed the world’s seventh-highest Dhaulagiri mountain.

Shrestha, a member of the Photojournalists Club, reached the peak at 6 am on Friday (today). Along with the successful ascent, Shrestha has also become the first Nepali woman to step on the peak of Mt. Dhaulagiri.

Shrestha, 29, who was born in Arughat in Gorkha district, has successfully climbed Mt. Everest in 2018, Manaslu in 2017 and Ama Dablam in 2019.

Purnima, who has been active in photography for over a decade, is currently working for Karobar Daily.

Along with the Purnima, climber Pasang Hlamu Sherpa has also successfully climbed Mt. Dhaulagiri. She has also set the record of the first two Nepali women to set foot on the peak of Mt. Dhaulagiri. Shrestha went to Mt. Dhaulagiri on foot on Sept. 19  through Seven Summit Trekking Company.
