Why did the Election Commission send a letter to the Speaker?
KATHMANDU: AUGUST 22 – The Election Commission has sent a letter to Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota. The commission has sent a letter to the speaker after Madhav Kumar Nepal and Mahanta Thakur’s party applied for registration of different parties. The spokesperson of the commission, Raj Kumar Shrestha, told Makalu Khabar that a letter was sent to the speaker with the question, “Do the leaders mentioned in the tender for party registration belong to the same group or party?” “The letter was sent,” said Shrestha.
Last Friday, the Nepal Group filed a petition with the Commission for the registration of the CPN (Unified Socialist and Thakur Group) for the Democratic Socialist Party.
This will make it easier for the party, the leader and the commission politically, said spokesperson Shrestha. Spokesperson Shrestha said that the commission will conduct the necessary study after receiving the reply to the letter. “Once the reply is received, the further process will be taken forward,” Shrestha said. “The commission is waiting for the reply.”
The commission has called both the groups for identification next Wednesday. The commission has stated that it will be easier to get an answer before that.
According to Commission sources, Nepal needs 31 MPs to register a new party based on the number of federal MPs, while Thakur needs 20 MPs if he has seven MPs.
