KATHMANDU: JULY 23 – A meeting of the top leaders of the ruling Nepali Congress is being held. The meeting will be held shortly to discuss the changes in the schedule of the General Convention, resolution of active membership dispute and election guidelines.

Chairman and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba convened the meeting at his private residence in Budhanilkantha. Party office-bearers, former office-bearers and influential central members have been invited to the meeting.

After Deuba became the Prime Minister, a meeting of the Nepali Congress was held at his official residence in Baluwatar last Thursday. However, after widespread criticism, Deuba has decided not to hold a party meeting at the official residence. Accordingly, today’s meeting was convened at the residence of the president at Budhanilkantha, said General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka.

The central office of the Nepali Congress, on the other hand, is full of activists holding sit-ins and hunger strikes over the issue of active membership. Deuba called a meeting of the party at his residence after the party cadres surrounded him.

A leader said that the meeting could decide on the schedule of the convention. ‘Disputes over active membership are discussed. The election directive will also have to be passed. If there is an agreement, the schedule of the general convention may be changed today, ‘said the leader.

The ward level convention of the Nepali Congress is scheduled to be held on July 27. However, it has not been prepared. Even when the ward level convention has to be postponed, the leaders are in favor of not postponing the date of the central convention. Therefore, the leader said that they are preparing to change the date of the lower level convention and maintain the date of the general convention of the centre.
