MANANG: JULY 21 –  Manang has been devastated by the floods on June 7 and 15. Private houses entered Marsyangdi from the government base. The structure of banks, financial institutions and security agencies collapsed.

No bridge, the road is damaged. The villagers were displaced after the floods hit the settlement. According to the Manang administration, about 1,000 people have been displaced. More than 60 houses have been completely damaged.

Most of the settlements in Manang are on the banks of the river Marsyangdi. The damage is highest in Dharapani, Taal village, Thonche, Danakyul and other villages including the district headquarters Chame. The locals have been taking shelter in government buildings in Chame for the past month.

No phone. No electricity. Drinking water flowed. There is a problem with transporting food as there is no road. There is no way to go from one village to another, you have to order a helicopter. Helicopters are now transporting food to Manang.

Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Lamichhane says that it is very difficult to restore Manang to its old condition. They have sent suggestions for speeding up reconstruction along with relief and rescue.
