CANBERRA: MONDAY, MAY 17, 2021 – Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said the country’s international borders are not yet safe to open immediately.

Rejecting calls from political party leaders and business leaders for flexibility in opening Australia’s international border, Morrison said it was still not safe to open the border due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

The 2021-22 budget presented by the government in the Australian Parliament has also indicated that the country’s international borders will not be open until mid-2022.

“It’s not safe to take any action right now,” Morrison told reporters on Monday. Opening the border one day and closing it the next is not practical. It doesn’t have to be this way. ” He further said, “Overall border management is the main thing. Border cannot be opened unless it is ensured to be secure.”

Mr Morrison said the next step would be to vaccinate all Australians and facilitate the repatriation of international students and migrant workers to Australia.

Mr Morrison’s comments came as a majority in a recent referendum backed Prime Minister Morrison’s move on the border.

In the latest news poll released on Sunday night, 73 percent of voters supported the government’s border policy. He said the border should be closed by mid-2022. – RSS
