KATHMANDU: SUNDAY, MAY 16, 2021 – Users are attracted to the ‘Nagarik App’, which was unveiled on Magh 2 under the slogan ‘Sanchar Ra Suchana Pravidi Ko Tewa, Hath Hath Mai Sarkari Sewa,.

It has been found that 640,503 people have downloaded the app in a period of four months. According to the National Information Technology Center, only 34.7 percent of those who downloaded the app have been verified so far.

According to Information Technology Center Information Officer Ramesh Prasad Pokhrel, 574,203 people have downloaded the app on Android phones. Similarly, more than 52,859 have scanned the iPhone (ISO) and more than 5,000 have scanned the QR code.

Although the number of app downloads has increased significantly, the number of verifiers remains low. So far, 4,18,188 people or 65.3 percent have not been certified while only 222,315 people or 34.7 percent have been certified.

Even after downloading the app, many complaints have been received that it has not been verified, said the center official. Many users have been complaining over the telephone along with the users who have entered the center by verifying the app.

He informed that there were complaints that the verification could not be done as the SIM card was using was not in users name. Similarly, many users have complained that their citizenship details have changed.

The full version of the Nagarik App, which was made public as a beta version on Magh 2, was made public on Baisakh 19. The Nagarik App was launched saying that all kinds of services provided by the government of Nepal will be digitized and services will be provided through an integrated platform.

Recently, police clearance reports and health insurance programs have also been added to the Nagarik App. Account can be opened in Nepal Bank and Siddhartha Bank by scanning QR from the app. In the initial stage, the digital identity of the citizen was established in the app using the details in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Election Commission and Passport Department.
