The work of Tanahun Hydropower Project is in full swing due to the Prohibitory Order

TANAHUN: THURSDAY, MAY 13, 2021 – The District Administration Office, Tanahun, has issued a district-wide prohibitory order since 22^nd of Baisakh after the spread of Corona infection. All areas are closed due to the ban. Despite the ban, work on the 140-MW Tanahun Hydropower Project is in full swing. The project has stated that the work of the project has been accelerated by adopting health standards. The work of the project was not stopped even in last year’s ban.

Project Chief Achyut Ghimire informed that the work of all the three packages of the project has been continued. Ghimire said that the works of Package 1, Package 2 and Package 3 are in full swing. “Work has not been stopped due to the ban. We have given impetus to the work by adopting all security measures,” he said.

The construction company has started the necessary preparations for the work of Package 1, which was recently agreed upon. Preparations are underway to start work on the first package of the project, including river diversion and dam construction. The project was funded by Song Da Corporation, Vietnam-Kalika Construction (Pvt.) Ltd. Nepal had an agreement with JV.

According to Ghimire, representatives of Vietnamese companies and Nepali companies have been deployed in the field. Ghimire said that 25 people from both the companies are engaged in pre-preparation work.

Work is also underway for the construction of power house under package 2. For that, 370 employees and workers are mobilized. Two hundred and fifty workers are inside the camp for the work of Package II. Due to the risk of Corona, only a limited number of workers have been deployed in the area.

“We have been prepared to keep the outside workers inside as well. We will speed up the work by keeping everyone inside as there is a risk of traffic congestion,” said Ghimire. Forty-five Chinese are also mobilized for the package. Under Package 2, work is being done in seven parts at once. Under this package, excavation of cable tunnel has been completed and in addition to excavation work of underground power house, access tunnel towards search tank and access tunnel on the right side of Seti river leading to the dam are being constructed.

30 workers are mobilized for the construction of transmission line under package 3. The work of Tower Foundation for the construction of transmission line is in progress. Work has been completed for the construction of 23 towers and work is underway in ten places. – RSS
