Chetan Goyal arrested for producing cosmetics illegally
KATHMANDU: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 2021 – Police have arrested a man for illegally producing cosmetics including mehandi and face cream produced in Nepal and India. Chetan Goyal, a resident of Dhungeadda in Kathmandu, was arrested on Tuesday by a police team deployed by the Metropolitan Crime Branch after receiving information that such products were being produced illegally in Kathmandu and the use of such cosmetic products had serious effects on people’s health such as hair loss and allergies.
A joint team of the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection and the police conducted a search of Goyal’s cosmetic industry and found that the cosmetics were produced illegally using the trademark which was revoked in 2073 BS as per the decision of the Patan High Court.
Police said that the industry has been sealed with 24 types of cosmetics and four machines used for making goods. Similar warehouses and shops have also been sealed. The van (Ba 19 Cha 8053) used to transport the goods and eight bags of goods inside it were also taken under control, police said.
It has been found that Goyal has been selling low quality mehndi in India under false pretenses, without even giving a date, and operating without renewal. Police had arrested him two years ago.
