Ginger export of Rs 40 million in Salyan
SALYAN: Ginger worth Rs 40 million has been exported from Salyan in the current fiscal year. According to the Agriculture Development Office, 825 metric tonnes of ginger has been produced.
According to Resham Kumar Basnet, information officer at the office, the farmers got good price for the burnt ginger as it was a non-seasonal product. Of the ginger produced, five metric tonnes was consumed in Salyan and the remaining 820 metric tonnes was exported outside the district. From which Rs. 41 million has been earned.
Ginger planted in an area of 1,720 hectares in Salyan last year produced 25,800 metric tonnes. Despite the Prime Minister’s Agriculture Modernization Zone Program and various block programs of the Agriculture Development Office to attract the farmers towards ginger cultivation, the farmers are becoming discouraged due to the rise in prices.
