Kathmandu. In a joint effort to fight the Covid-19 epidemic, the first joint initiative has been taken by the Bank, Center, Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, National Disaster Risk Reduction Center and Chaudhary Foundation in capacity building for local frontline health workers in coordination with the Ministry of Health’s Health Emergency Operations Center.
A one-day orientation program for disaster preparedness and response has been completed in six states, while next week in Karnali, the aim is to strengthen the local health system for preparedness and response to epidemics such as Covid-19 and other health emergencies. More than 280 frontline health workers from both public and private health facilities and humanitarian organizations actively participated in the one-day orientation program.
In this regard, this National Partnership Workshop provides an important platform to continue the pace of some concrete follow-up work, primarily to share issues, challenges, experiences and education in the provinces and to identify potential joint partnerships and resource mobilization opportunities. It is a unique public-private partnership initiative in health emergency response and disaster risk management, which is commendable for the significant contributions made by federal, provincial and local government officials from the private sector as part of their corporate social responsibility.
The private sector can take further steps to build a flexible health system locally to support initiatives by governments and civil society organizations during epidemics such as COVID-19. This first joint PPP has encouraged all stakeholders to continue the dynamism and partnership that will make Nepal a disaster-prone nation.
