Sales of Chinese electric cars are higher than those of Tesla

Kathmandu. The 4,500-budget electric car (EV) made in China is selling more than Tesla’s upmarket.

Sales of the car have hit China’s largest car company SAIC Motor hard.

The Hong Guang MINI EV is currently building the electric car in coordination with American car company Giant General Motors (GM).

Last month, sales of the car nearly doubled compared to Tesla, the company said.

Currently priced at 4,500, the Hong Guang MINI is seen as the most popular model. Another air-conditioned car manufactured by the company is priced at $5,000.

Even car experts say that this car is more useful than Tesla in terms of battery, range and performance. Experts say that due to its convenience and low price, it has become one of the best-selling cars in China in a short period of time. The company has stated that this car can accommodate up to 4 people.

“The Chinese government is serious about controlling pollution and building and expanding electric vehicles,” Shaun Rein, managing director of China’s Market Research Group, told the BBC.

To promote electric vehicles, the Chinese government will provide license plates for such vehicles free of charge. In many Chinese cities, it still takes months to get a license plate for a petrol-powered car. Approval for a license plate is obtained only after completing several procedures.

The Hong Guang MINI EV sold 112,000 cars in the first six months of 2020, making it the second-best-selling car in the world.

As Tesla’s largest market after the United States is in China, five Chinese regulators have invited Tesla’s team to China to discuss the convenience and safety of Tesla cars.

Last January, the Hong Guang MINI sold more cars than Tesla, making it the second most popular electric car in the world. At number one is still Tesla’s Model 3.

According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), 25,778 models were sold in China in January alone, while only 13,843 models of Tesla’s Model 3 were sold.

The company said that The Hong Guang MINI EV is preparing to bring its vehicles to the world market.

“There are a lot of small and cheap electric car companies in China, but most of them don’t have a big market because of their low comfort and low speed,” said Sam Fiorani of Auto Forecast Solutions.
