Kathmandu. Sonam Lhosar, the New Year festival celebrated by the Tamang community on the day of Magh Shukla Pratipada, is being celebrated today by organizing various programs. According to the Manjushri calendar, the 2857th year begins today.

From today, after the completion of the mouse year, the cow year enters. Sonam Lhosar festival is celebrated every year on the occasion of Magh Shukla Pratipada with various programs. Sonam Lhosar is divided into 12 categories: rat, cow, tiger, rabbit, dragon (cloud), snake, horse, sheep, monkey, bird, dog and pig.

Researcher Tika Sherpa informed that all the 12 years of Lhosar are counted from the name of animals and birds. This festival is specially celebrated in different districts of the Bagmati region where the Tamang caste predominates. The government has given a public holiday across the country on the occasion of the festival to be celebrated on Friday this year.

Chairperson of the committee Chandra Man Lama informed that the Bouddhanath Area Development Committee is going to celebrate the occasion by organizing various programs in the area. He said that Lhosar will be celebrated this year by adopting health protection method due to the corona epidemic.

A rally of music instruments with cultural pageant will be held in the Bouddha area today. In the afternoon, a program will be held on behalf of the main function committee at the premises of Mahendra Bouddha Secondary School.

Similarly, Lhosar will be celebrated by organizing various programs in the autonomous region of the capital. Similarly, preparations are being made to celebrate Lhosar in other parts of the country as well.
