2 held for attempted match-fixing in NPL

KATHMANDU: Two individuals have been arrested on charges of attempting to engage in match-fixing during the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket tournament.

Those arrested are 28-year-old Dilpreet Singh, a resident of Haryana, India, and 24-year-old Revika Singh Thakuri, a resident of Bardiya’s Barbardiya Municipality-8, located in the western region of Nepal.

According to the police, the two individuals were attempting to influence the outcome of matches in the ongoing NPL Season 2, which is being held from Nov 17 to Dec 13.

They allegedly contacted players under the guise of offering sponsorships through social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram.

The aim was to entice the players with financial incentives to influence the results of the matches.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku arrested the duo in Lazimpat, Kathmandu.

They have been handed over to the Kathmandu District Police Office for further investigation and legal action.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter, and appropriate legal proceedings will follow.
