KATHMANDU: A total of 1,957 motorists have been penalized for violating traffic rules, generating Rs 1,078,500 in government revenue, according to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office in the past 24 hours.

Among those penalized, 23 drivers were found operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

Similarly, 144 individuals were booked for operating ride-sharing services in violation of regulations, while 185 were fined for signal light violations.

Traffic police also took action against 181 drivers for overspeeding.

Other violations included 87 cases of lane discipline breaches, 91 instances of unnecessary horn usage in restricted zones, 111 cases of illegal roadside parking, and 93 drivers operating in one-way lanes.

Additionally, 1,042 motorists were penalized for various other traffic rule violations.

Authorities have stated that such enforcement drives are part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and ensure disciplined traffic management across the Kathmandu Valley.
