13 dead in Gen Z protests, govt orders free treatment

KATHMANDU: The ongoing Gen Z protests in the capital have so far claimed 13 lives. According to hospital sources, these deaths occurred while protesters were receiving treatment at various hospitals across the Kathmandu Valley.

As of 3:30 PM today, six deaths were reported at Trauma Centre, two at Civil Hospital, one at KMC Hospital, one at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, and three at Everest Hospital, officials confirmed.

Clashes between police and protesters have resulted in numerous injuries, though exact figures and the condition of the wounded have yet to be disclosed.

In response, the Ministry of Health and Population has instructed all federal hospitals to provide free medical treatment to those injured in today’s protests.

Under the leadership of Health Minister Pradeep Paudel, the ministry issued a circular ensuring that protesters admitted to federal hospitals receive immediate care without any charges.

The ministry has also directed hospitals to enhance ambulance services and make them readily available across key locations.

The Kathmandu Valley ambulance network has been urged to facilitate the transfer of patients referred from one hospital to another.

Furthermore, the ministry called on all doctors and healthcare personnel to unite and actively participate in treating the injured, emphasizing swift and coordinated medical support.
