1.5 million ballots printed daily, distribution to start Thursday
He added that while the center was previously printing 1.3 million ballots daily, the rate has now increased to 1.5 million to ensure completion by Friday.
KATHMANDU: Janak Education Materials Center Limited, Sanothimi, is printing ballots at a rate of 1.5 million per day for the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5.
Executive Managing Director Yadunath Paudel informed today that out of a total requirement of 20.3 million ballots for the first-past-the-post system, 15.3 million have already been printed as of this morning.
He added that while the center was previously printing 1.3 million ballots daily, the rate has now increased to 1.5 million to ensure completion by Friday.
“The printing of first-past-the-post ballots is progressing rapidly. Around 5 million ballots are still pending. We aim to complete all printing by Friday evening, though it may extend to Saturday at the latest,” Paudel said.
According to the center, larger ballots are required in constituencies with many candidates, and smaller ones in areas with fewer candidates, which has caused some delays.
The center has already delivered 1 million sample ballots to the Election Commission, and after completing the printing and packaging of 20.83 million proportional representation ballots, the printing of first-past-the-post ballots commenced.
Paudel further stated that distribution of the ballots to districts will begin on Thursday, with remote areas receiving ballots starting the same day.
He assured that all districts will have received their ballots between Feb 22 and 24.
