KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has filed a petition in the Supreme Court saying that the vote of confidence received by Chief Minister Khagraj Adhikari in Gandaki State is unconstitutional.

The Congress approached the Supreme Court after it was announced that the vote of confidence had been obtained by illegally counting the votes of the State Assembly.

Congress Parliamentary Party leader Surendraraj Pandey filed a writ, as the vote taken by the official was illegal, now Pandey has demanded the issuance of a mandate for the appointment of the Chief Minister in terms of a large party.

Chief Minister Adhikari took the vote of confidence in the provincial assembly last Sunday. Officers got 30 votes in the 60-member State Assembly.

The Congress argues that 31 votes are needed to reach Buhmat. But in the State Assembly, Speaker Krishna Prasad Dhital calculated that 30 votes would be the majority, saying that according to the order of the Supreme Court.

He said that in the event of a tie, the speaker should also take care of the right to vote.
