KATHMANDU: The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, paid a visit to President Ram Chandra Paudel at his office in Sheetal Niwas this afternoon.

Also present at the gathering, held at the Gandaki Hall of Sheetal Niwas, were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Shakti Bahadur Basnet, along with other officials.

Directly from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), the Emir of Qatar arrived at Shital Niwas, where he was received at the VVIP lounge by President Paudel, Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, and other senior government officials.

Tonight, President Paudel is hosting a banquet in honor of Qatari Emir Al Thani.

Additionally, bilateral discussions between Emir Al Thani and Prime Minister Dahal are scheduled for Wednesday.

Invited by President Paudel, Amir Al Thani of Qatar arrived in Kathmandu earlier today for a two-day state visit to Nepal.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Qatar on Jan 21, 1977, this marks the first official visit of the Qatari Emir to Nepal.

Nepal established its embassy in Doha on July 11, 2000, while Qatar established its embassy in Kathmandu in August 2011.
