KATHMANDU: The government has decided to give a public holiday on April 23 during the visit of Emir (King) Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar to Nepal.

The Cabinet meeting held on Monday at Singha Durbar decided to grant a public holiday for the visit of Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, scheduled to commence from April 23.

Spokesperson of the Government and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma informed that during the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, it was decided to present an ordinance to President Ram Chandra Poudel for the amendment of some Nepali laws related to investment facilitation.

She further explained that decisions were made to reduce risks and manage disasters, and to amend the rules and regulations regarding investment facilitation.

Additionally, Madhukumar Marasini has been appointed as the Secretary of Finance, subject to clearance from the court.

Moreover, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim is expected to tour Nepal soon, and a public holiday has been declared for his official visit starting from the April 23.

Several agreements, including those related to tourism and various ministries such as sports, communication, and others, are likely to be signed during his visit.

The agreements with Qatar’s Emir are expected to benefit Nepal in various ways.
