Manaslu avalanche: Home ministry urges vigilance in lower coastal areas

KATHMANDU: The bursting of Birendratal, situated in Chumanubri Rural Municipality-1 of Gorkha, due to an avalanche has led to an increase in the flow of water in the Budhigandaki River.

Local residents reported a significant avalanche in the lake this morning.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a warning to residents of the lower coastal areas, urging them to exercise caution as the Budhigandaki River’s water level has risen following the lake burst.

Officials have highlighted the potential for floods to cause damage in areas surrounding the river. “We urge everyone to prioritize safety ahead of the impending floods,” stated Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Additionally, Pravatta Bhattarai revealed that the District Police Office in Gorkha received information about the incident and dispatched police personnel from Samagaun Chauki to assess the situation.
