Young man kills wife, dies by suicide

KATHMANDU: A young man murdered his wife in Rangeli, Morang on Tuesday morning. Mukesh Kumar Mandal, 21, of Bahuban, Rangeli-5, killed his wife Ambika Kumari Mandal, 21, and then committed suicide on Tuesday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 2:00 am in Rangeli-5, Bahuban.

The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Mukesh Kumar Mandal and his 21-year-old wife, Ambika Kumari Mandal.

Mukesh had arrived at his in-laws’ house in Dhanpatti on Monday evening.

Preliminary police investigation suggests that a minor domestic dispute broke out between the couple in the early hours of Tuesday.

In a moment of rage, Mukesh allegedly attacked Ambika with a knife, inflicting fatal injuries that led to her death at the scene.

After killing his wife, Mukesh reportedly used the same weapon to end his own life, said Morang Police DSP Leelaraj Lamichhane.

The incident, which took place at midnight, has plunged the entire village into mourning.

Upon receiving information, a special police team led by Morang Police Chief SP Kavit Katwal reached the scene.

Police have completed an initial inspection and are preparing to send both bodies for post-mortem examination.

While the incident appears to have stemmed from a domestic dispute, police say a detailed investigation is underway to examine the background and other technical aspects of the case.

“We are closely investigating how a seemingly minor household disagreement escalated into such a grave tragedy,” DSP Lamichhane said.
