YCL leader held in Rukum West for alleged rape of minor
According to police, 30-year-old Resham Khatri of Chaurjahari Municipality-4 was arrested on allegations of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl from Jajarkot.
KATHMANDU: A leader of the Young Communist League (YCL), the youth wing of the CPN (Maoist Centre), has been arrested in Rukum West on charges of raping a minor.
According to police, 30-year-old Resham Khatri of Chaurjahari Municipality-4 was arrested on allegations of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl from Jajarkot.
District Police Chief DSP Pramesh Bishwakarma said Khatri was apprehended late Thursday night from a hotel in Sanibheri Rural Municipality-2, acting on a confidential tip-off.
“The victim filed a complaint with our office on Jestha 18, but the accused had been absconding since,” DSP Bishwakarma said. “We arrested him yesterday based on a tip.”
Following his arrest, the Rukum District Court has granted a seven-day remand for further investigation.
Khatri is a Karnali Province committee member of YCL and serves as the in-charge of the Chaurjahari municipal committee.
He also chairs the Chaurjahari Municipal Sports Development Committee.
