Yadav urges sanitation focus, flags water budget challenges
Minister Yadav outlined the government’s ambitious target to provide 99% of the population with basic drinking water and 90% access to safe drinking water by 2030.
KATHMANDU: Drinking Water Minister Pradeep Yadav has pointed out that while all three levels of government have focused primarily on the water supply sector, sanitation has been largely neglected.
Responding to questions on the appropriation bill in the House of Representatives on Monday, Minister Yadav emphasized the need for all political parties to commit to prioritizing sanitation.
He stressed that sanitation should be promoted as a national campaign, similar to the declaration of open defecation-free areas.
Minister Yadav outlined the government’s ambitious target to provide 99% of the population with basic drinking water and 90% access to safe drinking water by 2030.
However, he warned that achieving these goals would be challenging without adequate budget allocation.
He claimed that the Ministry of Drinking Water has balanced its budget allocation for the upcoming fiscal year.
Yadav also underscored the importance of considering federalism while preparing the budget, asserting that the allocations were made accordingly.
