X refuses Nepal registration
In a letter sent to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, X stated it would not proceed with registration under such conditions.
KATHMANDU: Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has officially declined to register in Nepal, citing high levels of corruption and lack of transparency in the country.
In a letter sent to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, X stated it would not proceed with registration under such conditions.
During Monday’s Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had the letter read aloud by Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal.
Following the reading, Oli informed ministers that the government would not lift the ongoing ban on social media platforms.
Reacting sharply to the wording of X’s letter, Oli said, “To say you won’t register in a corrupt country? We told them to register, operate, and earn profits here—but addressing a sovereign nation in such a manner? Others may tolerate it, but I will not.”
With this stance, the government remains firm on keeping social media restrictions in place.
