Western & local winds trigger rainfall across parts of Nepal

Weather officials said cloud cover is expected to persist through the day, particularly across the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

KATHMANDU: The influence of westerly and local wind systems has brought changing weather conditions across several parts of Nepal, with thunderstorms and rainfall already occurring in some provinces on Tuesday.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Meteorological Forecasting Division, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is currently affecting a few areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

Weather officials said cloud cover is expected to persist through the day, particularly across the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

Partial cloudiness is also likely over the hilly and Himalayan areas of Madhesh Province and other provinces, while most Tarai regions are forecast to remain mainly clear.

The department has forecast moderate rainfall and possible snowfall at a few locations in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi Province, as well as isolated areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

Light rain with thunder and lightning is also possible in parts of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, including some Terai areas and other hilly regions.

Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to rise in the Terai districts of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces, increasing the likelihood of hotter daytime conditions.

For tonight, partly to generally cloudy skies are expected over the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, while the remaining Terai areas are likely to see mostly fair weather.

The forecasting division has also warned of isolated thunderstorms, light rainfall and possible snowfall in one or two locations across the hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces overnight.
