But against a seasoned West Indies outfit, their campaign ended with a harsh lesson in experience and execution as the Windies sealed a commanding 42-run win at Eden Gardens.
KATHMANDU: Two-time champions West Indies cricket team maintained their 100% record in Group C of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a comfortable 42-run victory over Italy national cricket team on Thursday.
The match was played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Chasing a target of 166 runs, Italy were bowled out for 123 in the 18th over.
West Indies, who had already secured qualification for the Super 8 stage, were led brilliantly by Shamar Joseph, who took 4 wickets for just 30 runs. Italy struggled to build momentum, with Ben Manenti top-scoring with 26 runs, while JJ Smith added 24.
Earlier, West Indies posted a competitive total thanks to captain Shai Hope, who struck a superb 75 off 46 balls, including six fours and four sixes.
With this win, West Indies finished the group stage with a perfect 8 points from four matches to top Group C. England cricket team also qualified for the Super 8 from the group.
After the completion of all group-stage matches, Scotland national cricket team, Italy, and Nepal national cricket team were tied on two points each.
