KATHMANDU: A young man died in a road accident on the East-West Highway at Titirvan in Ramdhuni Municipality–2, Sunsari, on Saturday night.

According to police, a motorcycle traveling from Jhumka to Inaruwa with three riders collided from behind with a parked tipper truck (registration No. Ko 1 Kha 5128), which had stopped on the roadside after suffering a tyre puncture. The accident occurred around 11:15 PM.

The motorcycle rider, 29-year-old Binod Chaudhary of Inaruwa Municipality–8, sustained critical head injuries. He was rushed to a nursing home in Biratnagar for treatment, where doctors declared him dead around 12:15 AM on Sunday during treatment.

Two passengers on the motorcycle, 20-year-old Aryan Chaudhary and 28-year-old Ashish Chaudhary, sustained minor injuries and are in stable condition, police said.

The motorcycle has been taken under police control. The tipper driver, 48-year-old Lal Mohammad Miya of Koshi Rural Municipality–3, is in contact with authorities, and the truck remains at the accident site.

Preliminary investigation suggests that excessive speed and lack of attention by the motorcycle rider may have caused the crash.

Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
