Weak westerly winds bring fog & air pollution across Nepal
At present, fog has affected the Terai region and major valleys, while the high hilly and Himalayan areas—including Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces—are generally experiencing cloudy conditions.
KATHMANDU: Nepal is currently under the influence of weak westerly winds, resulting in varied weather conditions across the country, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
At present, fog has affected the Terai region and major valleys, while the high hilly and Himalayan areas—including Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces—are generally experiencing cloudy conditions.
The Department forecasts that during the daytime today, fog will continue in some parts of the Terai until midday.
The high hilly and Himalayan regions are expected to remain mostly cloudy, while other hilly areas will see partly cloudy skies.
The Terai, however, will remain mostly clear. There is a possibility of light rainfall and snowfall at one or two locations in the high hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.
Similarly, tonight, fog is likely to persist in some areas of the Terai.
The weather will remain partly cloudy in the high hilly and Himalayan regions, while the rest of the country is expected to experience generally clear conditions.
Light rain and snowfall may occur at isolated locations in the high hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.
As there is little chance of immediate rainfall and fog is likely to persist in parts of the Terai and valleys until midday, air pollution is expected to remain high in these areas.
The Department has urged the general public and concerned authorities to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the adverse effects of air pollution.
