Urmila Aryal urges end to election alliances
She stressed that the alliance system has deprived women, Dalits, indigenous peoples, marginalized communities, and minorities of fair opportunities.
KATHMANDU: In a special session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker Urmila Aryal emphasized the need to end the practice of contesting elections through alliances.
Aryal argued that voters will elevate political parties that perform well on their own merits, rather than those relying on alliances.
She stressed that the alliance system has deprived women, Dalits, indigenous peoples, marginalized communities, and minorities of fair opportunities.
She said, “The practice of contesting elections through alliances must end. Each party should stand on its own strength. Only then will parties be motivated to perform better. The alliance system should be abolished. Parties that establish themselves among the people will rise naturally. Until we end alliances, Dalits, women, indigenous groups, and minorities will continue to lose out on opportunities.”
Aryal further criticized the tendency of political parties to advocate for the rights of these marginalized groups only during protests and struggles, but to exclude them when opportunities arise.
