The deadline was part of a written agreement signed on Baisakh 17 with the Nepal Teachers’ Federation following a major educational strike.
In response, the Federation had suspended all protest programs.
However, with the final day of the agreed timeline Asar 15 passing and the bill still stuck in the parliamentary committee, frustration among teachers is rising again.
Led by Federation Vice-Chair Nanumaya Parajuli, a delegation of teachers reached the office of the Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee at Singha Durbar early this morning to press lawmakers for immediate action. They urged the government to honor its promises and finalize the Act without further delay.
Meanwhile, the committee is holding a crucial meeting today to resolve contentious issues within the bill.
Key topics under discussion include the teacher licensing system, restructuring of the National Examination Board, school mergers (adjustments), and management of subject-specific teachers. Despite progress on several points, major political disagreements persist, preventing the bill from reaching its final draft.
With no clear indication of immediate resolution, the Federation has intensified its lobbying efforts, signaling possible protests if the government fails to deliver on its commitment.
