KATHMANDU: The Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) has officially commenced in Awaza, Turkmenistan.
The event, running from today until the 23rd of this month, brings together heads of state and government from various LLDCs to address the unique development challenges faced by landlocked nations.

Turkmenistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Hojamyrat Geldimyradov and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the dignitaries at the opening ceremony held at the Awaza Sports Complex.

In his keynote address, Secretary-General Guterres emphasized the urgent need for enhanced international cooperation to ensure LLDCs gain better access to global markets.

He highlighted the importance of collective action, support, and coordination to overcome structural barriers that hinder economic growth in these countries.

Following the opening, the plenary session began at a prominent tourism complex in Awaza. Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is representing the country at the conference and is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech today.
He will also speak on behalf of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) group, underlining shared concerns and development priorities of the world’s most vulnerable nations.
