KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has begun preparations for the by-elections in Ilam Constituency Number 2.

The process of choosing candidates for the by-elections on the 15th of Baisakh (April 27) has advanced.

UML has begun preparations to recommend candidates for Chait 5 (March 18).

The district secretariat met and formed a working group consisting of secretary Umesh Gurung, deputy secretary Bishnumaya Acharya, and members Mukhraj Angdembe and Deep Kishor Lingden, coordinated by vice chiar Uday Bahadur Rai, to send the candidates’ names to the district committee.

The UML has also established criteria for candidates in the by-elections.

Previously, a person who was defeated in the parliamentary elections could not be a candidate in the by-elections, and criteria such as his popularity and contribution to the party were set for the candidates.

According to the inter-party instructions sent by the UML Central Committee to the district, it is mentioned that the district committee will recommend the names of three candidates, including one woman, to the center.

In the previous elections, candidates were recommended from the district only after coordinating with the municipal and regional coordination committees, but now the district committee will directly recommend the names of three candidates.

In Ilam-2, several aspirants from various backgrounds, including Budhiprasad Khanal, who served for two decades under the leadership of the late Subas Nemwbng as a personal secretary, youth leader Ravindra Suvedi, writer and analyst Dr. Devi Kshetri Dulal, and Subas Nembang’s son Suhang Nembang, are vying for candidacy.
