UML Chief Whip: No proposal yet against Deputy Speaker Rana
However, Bartaula reiterated that the parties have not yet decided to table the proposal in Parliament.
KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula has clarified that no directive has been issued so far to register a proposal in Parliament against Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar.
Speaking to the media, Bartaula dismissed rumors of an immediate move to oust the Deputy Speaker, saying, “There is no such decision from our side, nor from the Nepali Congress. The rumors about removing the Deputy Speaker are baseless.”
Earlier today, both the Nepali Congress and the UML had collected signatures from their lawmakers, which insiders say was part of a process aimed at removing Rana Magar from her post.
However, Bartaula reiterated that the parties have not yet decided to table the proposal in Parliament.
He did acknowledge, however, that serious concerns have been raised about the Deputy Speaker. “Issues regarding the Deputy Speaker must be addressed in Parliament,” he said, “but there is no immediate plan to move forward with a removal proposal.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Rana Magar is currently on an official visit to the United States.
She has faced criticism over allegations that she used her official letterhead to recommend individuals for U.S. visas.
