UML central members’ responsibilities to be finalized by Oli & Pokharel

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has assigned its Chair KP Sharma Oli and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel the responsibility of finalizing the distribution of duties among central committee members, as the party moves to strengthen its organizational structure ahead of upcoming local elections.
The decision was taken during a three-day Secretariat meeting held at Chair Oli’s residence in Gundu, Bhaktapur.
According to party leaders, a draft proposal on role allocation—focused on local-level responsibilities and mass organization leadership—was presented and reviewed in the meeting.
Following discussions, the meeting decided that General Secretary Pokharel will refine the proposal in consultation with Chair Oli, who will give the final approval before issuing a formal circular to all members.
Addressing the concluding session, Oli urged party leaders to maintain unity and strengthen internal cohesion, according to Deputy General Secretary Lekhraj Bhatt.
The meeting also decided to form a task force led by Vice-Chair Ram Bahadur Thapa to study party restructuring and review the recent parliamentary elections. The committee has been given one month to submit its recommendations.
The task force includes senior leaders, among them Vice-Chairmen Bishnu Prasad Paudel and Prithvi Subba Gurung, General Secretary Pokharel, Deputy General Secretary Bhatt, and secretaries Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Padma Aryal, and Bhanubhakta Dhakal, along with in-charges from all eight provinces.
In another key decision, the party resolved to construct a new central office building on its own land in Balkhu, Kathmandu, after its previous headquarters was damaged in the 2015 earthquake.
The central committee meeting is scheduled to convene again in mid-June.
