At its second secretariat meeting on Tuesday at the party’s central office in Chyasal, the UML named Thapa—who is contesting under the proportional representation category—as coordinator of the Election Operations Committee.
Thapa will serve as the chief election commander, managing the party’s entire electoral strategy.
Bishnu Prasad Rimal has been appointed secretary of the committee, while members include Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Rajan Bhattarai, Himmat Karki, Ramesh Badal, Min Bahadur Shahi, and Bhishma Adhikari.
According to party sources, the committee was formed following a principle of giving priority to leaders who are not contesting direct elections.
