KATHMANDU: Srijana Oli, popularly known as ‘Sizzu’, a travel influencer actively promoting Nepal’s remote destinations through social media and YouTube, has withdrawn her name from the proportional representation list of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

A permanent resident of Rukum West, Oli announced on Wednesday via social media that she will not be entering parliamentary politics at this time and will continue her work in the tourism sector.

Her inclusion in the RSP proportional list under the Khasiya-Arya women’s cluster, recommended by the ‘Balen Team’, had triggered widespread online discussions.

However, Oli clarified that the decision to enter politics was made hastily and that her true passion lies in promoting tourism.

A Sudden Call During a Journey

Oli revealed that while traveling in the Dhorpatan area, she received an unexpected call from Kathmandu. “They asked if I would allow my name to be included in the proportional list on behalf of the Balen Team. The decision was expected immediately,” she shared.

“At that moment, I was caught up in my travels and thought, perhaps this is a chance to contribute to the country. I couldn’t say ‘no’ in haste. But upon reflection, I realized my major life decisions are always made on the road, and this one felt rushed,” she added. Upon returning to Kathmandu, she submitted her formal withdrawal to the Election Commission. She explained that delays in informing the public were due to technical reasons and her busy travel schedule.

“I am from Karnali, I do not seek positions”

Oli also opened up about her political awareness and family background. Although her father was active in Maoist politics and she grew up in a political family, she emphasized that she has never sought to advance by leveraging her family name.

Addressing questions about her vision and agenda, she wrote, “To understand my agenda, ask the residents of Limi Valley in Humla, Kagmara in Dolpa, the Mundhum Trail, or the people along the mid-hill paths. Speaking loudly in a city is different from walking the villages with your feet on the ground.”

Oli made it clear that she is not pursuing any political position, adding emotionally, “I am from Karnali, a place that gives without expecting in return. I do not need to occupy a narrow position. I have spent countless nights under open skies and in remote hills.”

A graduate in Forest Science, Oli has recently played a significant role in promoting Nepal’s hidden destinations.

She believes that she can contribute more effectively to the country’s economy through tourism than by entering politics.
