Transport entrepreneurs demand fare hike after fuel price soars
The request comes after Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) increased fuel prices starting last night, raising diesel by Rs 10 per litre and petrol by Rs 15 per litre.
KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) has urged the government to immediately adjust public transport fares following the recent hike in petroleum prices.
The request comes after Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) increased fuel prices starting last night, raising diesel by Rs 10 per litre and petrol by Rs 15 per litre.
In a statement issued on Monday, Federation General Secretary Dekanath Gautam said the sudden price hike has directly affected both transport entrepreneurs and passengers.
“The automatic fare adjustment system should respond to fluctuations in petroleum prices, but public transport fares have not been revised since 24 Dec, 2024,” the statement said. “The recent sharp increase in fuel prices has made it difficult for operators to continue services.”
The federation has called on the government to revise transport fares based on a scientific mechanism.
It also urged authorities to adjust fares promptly for federal routes and routes across all seven provinces, considering 13 indicators related to vehicle operation costs.
