KATHMANDU: A 14-year-old boy was killed and his father injured after a tipper truck struck their scooter in Morang’s Gramathan Rural Municipality.

According to police, the incident occurred around 5 PM on Thursday in Kakadmaadi–5, Gramthan, along the Biratchowk–Ghinaghat road.

The tipper, carrying gravel and traveling from Biratchowk to Biratnagar (Province 1-02-001 Kh 9770), collided with the scooter (Province 1-02-052 Pa 9005) as it crossed from north to south.

The teenager, Anup Karki, who was riding as a passenger, was critically injured and taken to Nobel Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar, where doctors declared him dead at 5:45 PM.

The scooter driver and the boy’s father, 35-year-old Keshar Karki, sustained injuries but are reported to be in stable condition and receiving treatment at the same hospital.

Police have taken the tipper and its driver, 24-year-old Sanjay Chaudhary of Sundarharaicha Municipality–4, into custody.

Preliminary investigations suggest the accident was caused by the tipper’s high speed. Further investigation is ongoing.
