KATHMANDU: Nepal’s first privately produced film, Maiti Ghar, is set to reintroduce its iconic song Pranbhanda Pyaro Maiti Ghar, a timeless classic still cherished by audiences today.

Originally voiced by legendary singer Asha Bhosle, the song has now been recreated in a contemporary style for the upcoming film.

Producer Rohit Adhikari revealed that while the film retains the original title and song, the essence and soul of the classic have been carefully preserved. “We decided to retain the original name, and alongside it, we wanted to bring this timeless song to the new generation while staying true to its original sentiment,” Adhikari said.

The recreated song features vocals by Sanjivani, following the musical composition of the late Jaydev and lyrics by Kiran Kharel.

According to Adhikari, only the vocal rendition has been updated, keeping the original melody and message intact. “The song plays a pivotal role in advancing the film’s narrative and connecting with audiences across generations,” he added.

In an interactive initiative, the film team has announced a competition to select the best audiovisual interpretation of the song.

The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 500,000. Participants are invited to submit a 40-second to 2-minute video showcasing creative dance performances, which will not only honor the song’s legacy but also help promote the film ahead of its release.

The song features lead actors Upasana Singh Thakuri and Shyam Sherpa on screen, with choreography by Kabiraj Gahtaraj, cinematography by Manakrishna Maharjan and Sushan Prajapati, and editing by Surendra Paudel.

Directed by Milan Tamang, Maiti Ghar also stars Kedarpal Ghimire, Dhiraj Magar, Prakash Saput, Yubaraj Lama, Buddhi Tamang, Shishir Wangdel, Rajani Gurung, Santosh Shahi, Phulkumar Bamjam, and Sangeeta Thapa.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters on Phulpati, Asoj 13, coinciding with the Dashain festival.
