KATHMANDU: A sensational unbeaten century from Tilak Varma propelled the Mumbai Indians to a commanding 99-run victory over Gujarat Titans, ending their four-match losing streak in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday in Ahmedabad.

Batting first, Mumbai posted a formidable 199/5 in 20 overs. Varma remained unbeaten on 101, reaching his century in just 45 balls—one of the fastest hundreds in the franchise’s history, matching the record set by Sanath Jayasuriya in 2008.

Mumbai were in early trouble at 44/3, but Naman Dhir’s composed 45 off 32 balls helped stabilize the innings.

Varma then unleashed a late onslaught, smashing 82 runs in the final six overs after a slow start that saw him go boundary-less for his first 20 balls.

Despite early breakthroughs from Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada—who claimed three key wickets including Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav—Gujarat failed to contain Varma’s late blitz.

Chasing 200, Gujarat collapsed to just 100 in 15.5 overs. Jasprit Bumrah struck with the very first ball, dismissing Sai Sudharsan, while Hardik Pandya removed Jos Buttler early.

Mitchell Santner further dented the chase with two wickets in a single over, and Ashwani Kumar starred with four scalps as Gujarat’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure.

The innings was wrapped up when AM Ghazanfar dismissed both Siraj and Rabada in the same over.

In a remarkable stat, Varma’s individual score of 101 exceeded the entire Gujarat team’s total, underlining his match-winning brilliance in a dominant Mumbai performance.
